The Globe Telecom Tower in Pioneer Highlands served as host to UP SIKAT’s 7th anniversary celebration on August 7, Saturday. Aptly titled Vatuvlash: Ang Sagupaan ng apat na Daigdig (an imaginary "parallel universe" of SIKAT), the event reunited the four realms: Mammos, Subaria, Uthens and Monsapubismos to celebrate SIKAT’s 7 years of sharing and nurturing talents in a Vatuvlash-themed way.
Resident members, applicants, and alumni shared a night of performances, good company, laughter and fun. CSSP Student Council Chairperson Oyie Javelosa (joining the So You Think SIKAT's Got Talent panel of judges) and Secretary General Dan Ramos also joined in the celebration, as well as our junior faculty adviser Tonton Clemente, making the night even more enjoyable.
The Big Band Theory (BBT) participants (Alea Carpio, Janine Del Rosario, Missy Gonzales, Ginelle Petterson, Laura Guico , Sski Sison and Sed Ramiro) showed everyone their talents in singing during the competition for the title of the BBT Supernova. This year’s recipient of the Big Band Supernova Award, Laura Guico sang the song Akap by Imago. Judges (Jeff Agustin, Marian Cloma, Oyie Javelosa, and Pats Alcantara) praised her pitch-perfect singing, while reminding her about stage presence, and maintaining contact with the audience.
Of course, The Back Up Dancers (BUD) were nothing short of amazing as they danced to a mash-up of ballet and hip-hop music. Keeping in mind the techniques they learned during their dance workshops, the BUDs moved and grooved for the title of Standout Dancer. The Standout Dancer Award went to one of SIKAT’s applicants, Alea Carpio. The BUD participants (Juma Mendoza, Alea Carpio, Louie Lugto, Joy Morris, Xhannen Reyes, Pam Fabros, Yvette Tuason, Meh Oquindo, Paula Yanuario, and Nikki Directo) exhibited "very high energy, charm, and skill" according to the judges (Marian Cloma, Ropert Gapasenao, Char Silva, and Bevs Lumbera). Some alumni even got carried away and joined in the dance showdown!
Current members of each committee also had their own performances. This year’s executive committee, headed by SIKAT president Mm Merilo and Artistic Director, Martin Vidanes, made their own music video for the song Islands by the XX. The Externals-Publicity and Special Committee members, headed by the Externals and Publicity Directors, Nikki Directo and Erica Hitosis, presented a fashion show based on the seven deadly sins. A sexy street-hiphop dance number by the members of the Finance-Secretariat and Membership committees, headed by Ramon Vinzon, Sski Sison and Janine Del Rosario respectively, was a showstopper of the night, while a rendition of Eraserheads’ Huling El Bimbo was sung by Van Battad, Ramon Vinzon and Solomon Vicencio—all members of the Big Band Theory.
The members weren’t the only ones who put on a show. The applicants, led by their batch head, Alea Carpio, performed a medley of Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance, BoB’s Nothing on You, and Jordin Sparks’ No Air. Some of the alumni entertained the guests with their lively and superb acts. Artistic Director and former President, Jeff Agustin and former Director for External Affairs, Marian Cloma performed a duet of Seasons of Love from the musical Rent with the very talented Jerome Mamaril on guitar. There was nothing but laughter and energy when alumnus, McRhon Banderlipe went onstage. He talked about SIKAT’s history in an amusing and entertaining way, and "WOW!-ed" us with his hilarious stand up comedy.

Our annual SIKAT anniversary night wouldn’t be complete without awards. This year, the award for Lifetime Achievement went to one of UP SIKAT’s founders and proud alumnus, Pats Alcantara. The awarding ceremony is a yearly event where awards like these are given out to the members, to recognize their achievement in the past year. This year, however, prom-themed awards were also given to the Prom Prince and Princess (Best Dressed Award) to Martin Vidanes and Missy Muyot, while Van Battad and Erica Hitosis were awarded Prom King and Queen.
