THE BIG BAND THEORY is a talent search and music workshop organized by the UP Sirkulo ng mga Kabataang Artista (UP SIKAT) in celebration of the organization's seven years of shining talent. As the saying goes... "It all started with the BIG BAND!" UP SIKAT dreams big this year and that dream could actually be yours too! So brace yourself... ... sasabog na!
MECHANICS
• Bona fide students of UP Diliman are encouraged to apply and join the first ever BIG BAND THEORY talent search. Students from other colleges (outside UP Diliman) may also qualify (please coordinate with the UP SIKAT Externals Committee for more information).
• Participants will be immersed in a three-week training program, which includes regular workshops and actual performances.
• In each week of the training program, the participants will be given a set of songs that they should rehearse and perform with the facilitating band. The facilitating band may set a fixed schedule or negotiate flexible rehearsal dates with the participants.
• However, participants may still join anytime, and/or may be eligible for the final showdown given they perform at least twice for the duration of the program.
• Each participant will randomly be given a song (through "bunutan") at the start of each week. A rehearsal day with the facilitating band will be scheduled, and each participant may also suggest a particular style or arrangement he/she wants to perform the song with the band. The band will give comments or necessary critique regarding the participant's choice of style or arrangement.
• During each General Assembly (GA) of UP SIKAT, each participant will perform his/her assigned songs with the facilitating band. In case a participant misses a SIKAT GA, a special public performance will be assigned to him/her.
• The Grand Finale (final showdown) will be held during the UP SIKAT Anniversary Night, August 2010. In this event, all participants are expected to perform a medley from the third week setlist with the band. The medley will be divided into: two chorus parts and one solo part. During the chorus parts, the participants are expected to sing altogether. Each participant will then sing his/her assigned songs from the setlist in their respective solo parts (still tentative, depending on the number of participants). A panel of SIKAT alumni will be judging the showdown a la So You Think SIKAT's Got Talent.
• Each participant will receive a certificate of participation, and special awards will be given during the UP SIKAT Awards Night.
